My Sister, A COVID-19 Bride (II)

Read Part 1 here.

The plan was hatched: my sister Abbey and her new husband Stephen were coming into town the weekend that would have been their wedding, if not for COVID-19. They had eloped just 6 weeks earlier and we hadn’t shared so much as a meal together since, quarantining with the rest of the world.

Restrictions were beginning to lift and my mom, sister Mariah and I devised a plan: we would stage a “quick visit to Josh and Amanda’s House” during their visit and ambush the newlyweds with a family cookout as a belated celebration to their elopement. I love surprises and man, we got them good.

This was the first time that my nuclear family, 5 siblings, 4 spouses, 1 nephew and 2 precious parents, had been together since February. Four long, lonely months. I never want to forget how it felt to sit around on a hot May day with all my people around me, laughing, talking, and being together.

Reunited and it feels so good.
